Habitat's "Operation Home Delivery" program is providing long-term housing solutions for families displaced by Katrina. Chaired by Harry Connick, Jr., a native of New Orleans, Operation Home Delivery aims to pre-build house frames with donated materials, by shipping them to where they can be quickly assembled to meet the housing needs of those affected by the hurricanes. 75% of the $14,181.61raised by Rock2Rebuild’s Capital Area Concert for Relief on Oct 15, 2005 at the Palace Theatre In Albany, NY, will go to Habitat’s “Operation Home Delivery” program.
In keeping with Rock2Rebuild's ongoing commitment to the Capital District, the remaining 25% of the $14,181.61 raised by the R2R Katrina Relief concert will help those living in need locally, through Capital District Habitat for Humanity. Founded in 1988, Capital District Habitat for Humanity has actively partnered with over 45 sponsors, county and city governments, & numerous volunteers and donors to rehabilitate or build 38 new homes in the Capital District.

Save the Children's global resources are being marshaled to carry out a major regional response focusing on the three worst -affected countries: Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India, with smaller scale responses in other affected countries.

Save the Children’s Commitment to affected children and families includes 1.) Immediate Life-Saving (first 6 months): To ensure immediate lifesaving relief and survival of children and families who have been injured, displaced, put at-risk or otherwise made vulnerable during the emergency period; 2.) Medium Term Relief and Reconstruction (2 years): To ensure children survive and recover from the disaster, help families rebuild their livelihoods as well as the destroyed and damaged infrastructure, and assist communities to start rebuilding and strengthening their social systems; 3.) Long Term Recovery (5 years): To ensure children survive and thrive and help families and communities recover from the effects of this environmental disaster.

This long-term work will prove to be the largest ever post-disaster relief and recovery effort undertaken by Save the Children in its more than 70-year history. We also will continue to maintain our global effort to reach out to children in the United States and in more than 40 developing countries who are ensnared in persistent and acute challenges such as poverty, disease and political turmoil.

Habitat for Humanity's Disaster Response Office works to rebuild the future for victims of war and natural disasters worldwide. Habitat's Disaster Response empowers and works with families in building recovery housing, with the goal of putting communities back on their feet and helping them stay there.

Habitat has already begun the process of rebuilding in tsunami-devastated regions of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand, with plans to provide housing for as many as 25,000 families affected by the December 2004 disaster. Habitat’s goal is to help families move out of camps into transitional accommodations as a first step to permanent housing. Due to overcrowding, hunger, disease and crime in many camps, authorities are encouraging families to return to their communities to start rebuilding their shattered lives. Habitat officials estimate that for as little as US$200 per displaced person, they can move a family of five out of a camp and into permanent housing.
